Governance & Leadership

Meet the founders, trustees, and academic leaders of National Model Group of Schools who guide growth with integrity and purpose.

Founder's Message

Established over thirty years ago, the P.N. Palaniswamy Educational Trust was created with a clear objective: to deliver high-quality education to students from diverse backgrounds. The inception of the National Model Group of Schools represented a significant milestone in fulfilling this mission.

In 1987, Dr. P.N. Palaniswamy laid the groundwork for the National Model Matriculation School, starting with just two students and a small staff. Through his unwavering dedication, the school experienced remarkable growth and became a beacon of educational innovation in Coimbatore.

Dr. Palaniswamy's vision for holistic education set the school apart. By integrating martial arts, yoga, music and dance into the curriculum, he created an environment where students could excel academically as well as personally while being prepared for admission to prestigious colleges and universities across the country.

In 2006, recognising the importance of a national curriculum, he introduced the CBSE curriculum and embraced technology to enhance the learning experience.

Though he passed away in 2012, Dr. Palaniswamy's legacy continues to inspire the National Model Group of Schools to pursue excellence and empower students to achieve success in their academic and personal journeys.

Our Chairman

Dr. P. Mohan Chandar, B.B.A., M.B.A., Ph.D.

Dr. P. Mohan Chandar is the proud leader who helped build the National Model Group of Schools into a strong and ever-growing educational institution. Blessed with an impressive personality and visionary leadership, he completed his MBA in 1989 and later pursued his Ph.D. in Primary Education.

He took the reins of National Model School in 1987. With progressive ideas and a passion for innovation, he worked towards creating a unique, constructive and functional approach to education despite numerous challenges.

His commitment to innovation introduced cutting-edge technologies into the classrooms, including ultra-short-throw projectors, visualisers and interactive panel boards, ensuring that education, teaching and technology move forward together.

He strongly believes in empowering teachers through continuous training and professional development workshops that help educators understand every child individually, identify their talents and ignite young minds.

From just two students in 1987 to over 4500 students across four schools today, the institution has seen tremendous growth over 34 years of trials, tribulations and triumph.

His philosophy remains: "Happiness is a boomerang - give it in abundance to others and it returns to you."

Our Secretary

Mrs. Uma Mohan Chandar, B.E.

Mrs. Uma Mohan Chandar completed her B.E. in 1997. She began her career as a software engineer but later moved into teaching out of passion, believing that a good teacher requires an inquiring mind and a supportive team.

At the age of 30, as a mother of two, she chose to become a teacher, believing strongly that parents are teachers too. Over the past 15 years, she has grown into a successful educator while helping many aspiring teachers achieve their dreams.

She believes that a systematic and scientific approach to the teaching-learning process is essential for meaningful student engagement. Her vision shifts the paradigm from teacher-centric to learner-centric education.

With this philosophy, she designed a curriculum that prepares students for the challenges of the 21st century, promoting active, differentiated and collaborative learning.

Along with her team, she continuously analyses classroom practices and develops strategies that keep learners actively engaged. She sees today's classrooms as vibrant spaces where students participate, share ideas and build knowledge while enjoying the learning process.

She now also serves as Manager, contributing both academically and administratively to strengthen the institution's vision and growth.
